Description
Dr. Vikram Sarabhai was born on 12th August 1919 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He was an Indian
physicist and astronomer who initiated space research and helped to develop nuclear power in
India. He was honored with Padma Bhushan in 1966 and the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously)
in 1972. He is internationally regarded as the „Father of the Indian Space Program‟. He was a
great institution builder and established or helped to establish a large number of institutions in
diverse fields. Dr. Sarabhai set up the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. He also
established the Ahmedabad Textile Industry‟s Research Association (ATIRA) and the Indian
Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. The entire nation celebrates the Birthday
celebration of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai as a science festival by organizing science exhibitions,
workshops, seminars, symposiums, and many more activities. The aim to celebrate the day with
great enthusiasm is to impart scientific temper in the minds of people of all age groups. Events
are organized in educational institutes as well as research centers involving experts, learners, and
scientists.
