Grooming Guidelines
In present situations, the job markets for Fresher Engineers are very competitive in each field of engineering. As a result, the companies are hiring the Freshers having well technical knowledge with enough smart and well groomed. So, the engineering students should have those special skills besides strong technical expertise to crack the jobs. Lets put in practice the most common know –hows :
GENERAL
- Avoid smoking before any formal event.
- Gutkha and Pan masala is a strict no-no.
- Avoid eating candies and chewing gum.
- Use portfolio case or light briefcase when carrying important documents with you instead of compiling these documents in folders and carrying these between your armpits.
- No body piercings. They look untidy and unprofessional.
- Avoid huge tattoos on the exposed skin. In case of one, wear clothes that cover your tattoo.
- Maintain good oral hygiene. Use mouthwash for a fresh feeling.
- Wear a smile on your face all the time. Do not laugh or overdo it unnecessarily.
- Maintain a good body posture. Show self-confidence.
- When it comes to shopping, especially work wear collection, choose quality over quantity.
- Use ‘I apologize’, ‘Please’, ‘Pardon me’ and ‘Thank you’ whenever the situation warrants.
- Your body, your rules. Be comfortable in your skin.
- Make sure your appearance reveals your professionalism, your level of sophistication and the standard of services one can expect from you.
- Strictly adhere to the non-verbal communication guidelines given to you in the class.
- Color you hair in case of greying. Use subtle colors. Do not sport a very blonde look. Pink, blues, purples and greens are for beach holidays. In case of carrying a salt and pepper look, carry it neatly and with aristocracy.
- Do not use any hair color flouting the professional in you.
- For people who wear glasses, make sure they fit you and do not slide down the nose.
- Opt for simple glasses. Avoid neon and flashy frames.
BOYS
- Hair to be trimmed regularly. Use good gel for styling.
- The hair on the upper nape must not touch your collar.
- Clean the hair off your ears and neck.
- Trim nails and eyebrows and nose hair.
- Be clean shaven. In case you are sporting a beard, keep it well trimmed and set. Use good beard products to maintain facial hair. Moustaches to be trimmed perfectly.
- Stubble is preferred over a heavy, thick beard.
- Keep your skin well hydrated and moistened.
- Avoid funky shirts. Basics, solids, checks, stripes preferred. When opting for a printed one, pick the ones with only one or two colors and minimalistic prints.
- Go for plain, crisp trousers. Avoid pleated ones if they are ill-fitted. Ensure length of the trouser tailored for you.
- Collars to be starched and crisply ironed. Loose collars look shabby.
- Formal jackets and blazers and tuxedo always make a style statement.
- All clothes to be strictly pressed and ensured crease-free before wearing.
- Pocket squares, cufflinks, scarves and waistcoats can add value.
- Match the color of your belt to your shoes.
- Similarly your tie and shirt should complement each other. Opt for a light colored shirt when wearing a bright hued tie.
- Invest in the right pair of formal shoes. Shoes to be well polished.
- Derbies, Oxfords, Single Monk strap and Brogues are timeless classics.
- Socks should complement shoes. Do not wear very gaudy and funky socks. Prefer basics. They should be mid-calf length.
- No accessories except an elegant watch.
- Have your clothes tailored to fit your body.
- Keep your pockets empty and as much as possible so as to avoid tinkling coins or keys and bulges.
- Chains and pendants and bracelets to be avoided or hidden inside clothing.
- Carry your laptop and documents in a stylish messenger bag or a lively briefcase.
- Keep any added stuff like raincoats, umbrellas, winter jackets, caps, hats, sunglasses, etc. outside the premises.
- Use Perfumes / deodorants at regular interval. Do not use very strong smell. Invest in good mild and pleasant perfumes. Do not buy the cheap, pungent ones. Remember, less is more when it comes to fragrance.
GIRLS
- Western or Indian Formals to be worn (Formal shirts with Trousers, Elegant Silk / cotton Kurta with a Churidar or a Trouser, Elegant Silk/ Cotton Sarees can be worn (SALWAR/ PALAZZO IS A STRICT NO), Knee length to Full length Formal Skirts with a formal shirt , Knee length to Full Length formal dress, Full length Trouser cut Formal Jump suits with sleeves or Blazers can be worn. Never wear synthetics, rayon and artificial fabrics.
- Wear clothes in bold and basic colors. Try to minimalize the prints. Be as simple and confident as possible.
- Avoid any kind of gaudy dresses. Stick to solids and bolds.
- With a short skirt/dress, wear stockings. Your dress should cover your thighs when you sit down.
- If the attire is embroidered, make sure it’s very elegant.
- Wear cycling shorts under a tight dress.
- Have your clothes tailored to fit your body. Boyfriend fits aren’t for workplace.
- Please reserve all sorts of fashion and trends for the weekends and casual days.
- Scarves/Blazers/Waist coa
- ts can be worn to complement western attire.
- No Deep neck/backless or too much skin show and no zari work.
- Any dress/ pants to be hemmed enough not to drag on the floor.
Jewelry should be elegant and must go along with the attire worn. However, it is strongly recommended to keep it minimal. Wear a good elegant watch. It adds to the personality.
- Make up can be worn to add appeal to your personality.
- For the eye makeup wear kohl and eyeliner. Avoid experimenting with colors. Stick to black. Mascara can add value.
- Wear a lipstick. Stick to reds, pinks and browns. Do not use weird colors. Make sure your lips look fuller but do not overdo.
- Light foundation, compact and blush leave a good impact. They can be worn for occasions. Make sure they match your skin tone and blend well with your natural complexion.
- Nails to be filed and cleaned. Nail paints can be applied for a more presentable look on a short length but is must for long nails. Preferably pastel shades of nail paints.
- Keep your skin well hydrated and moistened.
- Hair to be brushed and neatly tied up in a Bun, French Roll, French knot, French plait, Fish tail plait or Pony tail. If hair is left loose, it should be perfectly conditioned and set or else it should be pinned up nicely. No fancy pins. Black band, black or metal tic-tac clips or bobby pins preferred.
- Use Perfumes / deodorants at regular interval. Do not use very strong smell. Invest in good mild and pleasant perfumes. Do not buy the cheap, pungent ones. Remember, less is more when it comes to fragrance.
- Always be neat and clean including your teeth, fingernails, face, hair and even your shoes.
- Formal shoes should be worn. At no point of time your toes should be visible.
- Polish your shoes every day. Black and nude pumps look the classiest. If you cannot carry high heels, opt for kittens but heels add to your appeal. If opting for flats, choose rich-look, pure leather ballerinas. You can experiment with Oxfords, Mules and Court shoes.
