Description

The Ganpat University – Institute of Computer Technology (GUNI–ICT) organized an expert session on “The Power of Perspective: A Deep Dive into Gender Sensitivity” on 6th March 2026 from 9:15 AM onwards in Classroom 208, New Engineering Building. The session was organized with the objective of creating awareness about gender sensitivity and encouraging students to develop a respectful, inclusive, and equitable perspective in academic as well as professional environments.

The expert session featured Dr. Sheetal Pandya, Associate Professor at ICT, who shared valuable insights on the importance of understanding gender perspectives and promoting equality in educational institutions and workplaces. The event provided students with an opportunity to learn about the significance of mutual respect, inclusive behavior, and the role of individuals in fostering a positive and supportive environment within society.

Expert Session Highlights

  1. Understanding Gender Sensitivity
The expert explained the concept of gender sensitivity and highlighted its importance in today’s society. Gender sensitivity was described as the ability to recognize, respect, and value the differences and rights of individuals regardless of gender. The session emphasized that gender sensitivity helps create a balanced and respectful environment in educational institutions, workplaces, and society.

  2. Role of Perspective in Gender Issues
A major focus of the session was on how individual perspectives influence attitudes toward gender. The expert explained that many perceptions about gender roles are shaped by social conditioning, upbringing, and cultural beliefs. By changing our perspectives and becoming more aware of these influences, individuals can develop more inclusive and respectful attitudes.

  3. Understanding Gender Stereotypes and Bias
The session highlighted common stereotypes and biases that exist in society regarding gender roles. The expert discussed how these stereotypes sometimes limit opportunities and create unequal expectations for individuals. Students were encouraged to question such assumptions and adopt a more fair and balanced outlook.

  4. Creating Inclusive and Respectful Environments
Another important highlight of the session was the need to create safe, respectful, and inclusive environments in academic institutions. The expert emphasized that educational spaces should promote equality, dignity, and mutual respect among students and staff.

  5. Use of Real-Life Examples
To make the session more practical and relatable, the expert shared real-life examples and situations that illustrated gender-related challenges in everyday life. These examples helped students better understand how gender bias can appear in small actions or attitudes and how it can be addressed through awareness and positive behavior.

  6. Encouraging Female Participation and Confidence
The session also focused on empowering female students by encouraging them to participate actively in academics, leadership roles, and professional fields. The expert stressed the importance of confidence, self-belief, and mutual support among students.

  7. Promoting Equality and Mutual Respect
The expert concluded the discussion by emphasizing that gender sensitivity is not limited to one group but is a collective responsibility. Respect, equality, and collaboration among all genders are essential for building a healthy and progressive society.
